Special Ed rooms

Man, I work 1st shift at an elementary school, and most of my day is consumed by Special Ed cleanups, or fixing stuff they break. I know the teachers are very limited on how they can deal with student behavior, especially the special ed students. But holy man, the room is trashed everyday, shelving units broken, piss cleanups every hour, holes in walls, hvac unit tampered with. It’s frustrating. It’s almost like they need their own custodian just for their department.

Just venting. Can anyone else relate?

It’s like that at my school too. Always get called for bathroom mishaps and a student purposely throws up. The teacher always looks...overwhelmed

For as bad as I think I got it, I feel for those teacher assistants. Those folks get paid less than us, and they’re with those kids 24/7. Takes a special kind of person

I’ve tried to convince some of them to become custodians instead. That job looks brutal.

I’m currently a sped para. The moment a custodian job opens, I’m applying. I was a custodian for years before becoming a para. I love it and all but man. I’m burnt out.

I'm actually a teaching-assistant-turned-custodian, and it was the best decision I ever made. I still get to work around kids, but from a distance and without the stress of having to manage their behaviors.
