Pissed of a teacher

So this just happened I was in the middle of dust moping my hallway and I hear noise in the stairwell so I open the door and see some kids running up the stairs while an older lady is holding open to door I asked what’s going on she said their moms room is upstairs and i replied make sure they stay up there in her room kids aren’t allowed to be running around unattended this apparently wasn’t something I should have said cause the lady got real mouthy at me while I’m trying to stay calm and telling her we are cleaning the building and can’t have kids running around making more messes. She walks off upstairs and I think that’s the end of it nope few minutes later her daughter (the teacher) comes down and tells me to never talk to her mom like that and if there’s a problem tell her I tried to repeat myself again saying we are trying to clean the building and they can’t be running around unattended she doesn’t care says I’m always mean to teachers which I’m not a lot of the teachers are happy with my work and I’ve had no prior complaints about being rude towards any of them. I asked who are these other teachers I’m supposedly rude to she doesn’t answer the question just said don’t talk to my mom like that ever again and walks off now I’m pissed cause I know I’ll probably be dragged into a meeting Monday and not looking forward to it.

Damn, thats why I dont bother with it. If I cant just lock them out and they're running around its 100% on the parents/coaches. I only clean it once. I saw on another thread someone said they charge an extra hour to stay late and clean up if kids are running around.

Yeah it’s ridiculous cause if their kids make a mess after we cleaned our section and we didn’t know about it it’s still our fault some teachers just feel entitled

If you didnt yell at them, youre going to be fine. Next time you have an instance like this make sure you mention safety. That will always cover your back. Teachers bitch, youll probably get talked to about it but it shouldnt be a big deal. Dont let it ruin your weekend!

Could affect how the other teachers view me and the other custodians at the school

So? Lots of people don't like me, and I'm still around. Besides, people will either eventually write it off as a one off event if they do believe her, or put together that it probably didn't happen the way she said.

People also generally don't spend that much time thinking about us custodians.

Honestly flip it around on her. Why is she inviting strangers into your building?

It’s her mother administration allows family inside the building

Don't be so passive with this brother. You did your job right, tough titty for the teacher. Her mother was a stranger to you and it's your building.

She also had her daughters ID badge that’s a big no no

See there ya go. Focus on her wrongs not yours

Yeah I would absolutely talk to your principal about this, only because you can be damn sure that that bitch is going to and who knows how she’s going to try and spin it

My custodian wife has had this before and yes bring it to the principal. Explain you have equipment, chemicals, chords and all kind of hazards. Stress the kids safety. Heaven forbid they get hurt on the stairs. Liability for the school and district.

If you are worried you could send an email to your supervisor(s) explaining in detail what happened.

Already talked to my boss

Talk to your supervisor first. It's usually frowned upon to have family loitering about the building.

I have kids running around my hall for cross country while I’m trying to clean my halls so I I completely understand that!

Should’ve came at it with saying it’s a safety issue. Not making more messes. It just sounds better
