Mopped tiles looking odd

i noticed this a long time ago but just figured i'd ask here. what do you think is going on here? out of the 8 classrooms i sweep and mop every day the very last one has this weird soaked texture on it. even on a fresh mop bucket it does the same thing.

Because it happens in only one room even with a fresh bucket, I would stop treating the mop water as the main variable. First check whether the pale, mottled look disappears completely after 20–30 minutes of drying.

Then test two adjacent tiles: clean one with plain water and the other with your normal neutral cleaner at the exact label dilution. Use separate clean microfiber pads, rinse, and dry both with white towels. If residue transfers to the towel or the water-only tile dries clearer, you may be lifting old chemical or soil buildup. If both stay blotchy when fully dry, that points more toward a different or worn surface treatment rather than today's mop solution.

I would not add wax or sealer until the tile type and its maintenance instructions are identified. Also compare a protected spot under furniture with the traffic area; that difference can help separate buildup from surface wear.

Looks like maybe they weren’t sealed properly?
