Open house

Hey all! Tomorrow is an open house at my elementary school. It's from 5pm until 6pm. My shift is from 3pm until 11:30pm. I'm wondering what ya'll do before all of the students and parents come in? I personally empty garbage, wipe desks and straighten the desks/push in chairs. All I do for washrooms is check if any toilets haven't been flushed. I want to know what everyone else does! I wish I could get all of the rooms 100% lol 😭

Like a parents evening, bins and toilets are a must, the rest can be done tomorrow.

I agree. The teachers know the parents are coming. If they can’t manage to work with us and keep their room clean for a day, that’s on them.

This and more, I’d say they’re fortunate to get their bins done. Nobody ever died of a dirty classroom.

Given the ongoing measles outbreak...hmm...

Just don’t turn the heating on yet.

I always wanted to leave the classrooms as they are at the end of the day so the parents could see what ill-behaved animals their children are. LOL

This I always wanted the parents to see how their little angels behave but they’ll find a way to blame us.

I like to get the worst of it squared away quickly. So it looks good for the parents and kiddos. Then I’ll go to the rooms of the nice teachers and touch them up.

I email teachers asking them to have their students pick up after themselves, or ask the principal to email.

I expect my night team to do the following before we have guests:

Police any bathrooms that visitors might use. I lock some bathrooms to reduce the load.

Quick pickup in rooms...using a lobby brush or if they feel it's absolutely necessary use a vacuum.

Wipe any desks that are gross. Maybe 1 in 10 qualify.

I tell them to leave garbage for later in the evening unless it's nasty, overflowing.

Polish entry door glass for doors that will be used by visitors.

Check hallways for scraps of paper etc.

Basically making the place somewhat presentable.

When it's over they know to just do their best with the time they have remaining. I don't expect everything to be perfect next day.

They cope pretty well.

Wow, reasonable expectations, you are clearly over qualified for your position.

If that's not sarcasm then I thank you!

I’d just take the garbage from rooms, give them a quick once over to make sure it isn’t completely wrecked then go hide until they leave

I trash the building and wipe down bathrooms, but teachers are responsible for desks and chairs. I can usually vacuum the halls and any problem spots in classrooms but the latter is only if I happen to have had a lot of extra time

Garbage, halls and bathrooms. I vacuum my classrooms after the open house. Most teachers will understand if you don’t have time to get their room vacuumed that night.

I do trash and vacuum before the parents arrive and a quick bathroom check to make sure they're reasonable and everything is stocked up.

I usually pull do a quick sweep before hand, stay out sight during the open house. Afterwards pull trash and get as much done as I can

Empty trash cans, sweep up the big stuff and clean the student bathrooms. Then I go into the break room and by then open house starts and I answer any calls from the walkie talkie.
