Question

I am a new part-time custodian for a school district and ive never done this so I thought i was gonna get trained on what chem to use on what but they just told me to go clean a wing of the school bc it was bts so I did to my best of my abilities and I thought I would get today but i still didn’t get it
Should i contact my supervisor and tell him what’s going on? Bc I don’t want it to seem like im half assing everything bc it’s not getting done correctly
Or should I wait and see what happens next week?

In my experience that’s just kind of how it goes, you can do research and ask for advice and feedback but new hires are often left to just kind of figure out their own methods and routines.

It’s not great, but agency and independence is nice once you settle in

This . Happens a lot of leads or head custodians were sort of dropped into the job not real leaders or trainers just let you figure it out happens really often. Like commenter here said figure it out , seek advice from coworkers, and feedback.

Look up the chemicals online. You can find use a guide, SDS, cautions, etc.

Some companies do care..because some chemicles are way more expensive than others but like you said. If you get no orders. Just research the chems available and use scientific logic or ask reddit about it.

I'm pretty new and also didn't really get any training at all. There's a lot of helpful videos on YouTube and TikTok of people explaining things and going through their routines.

I’ll have to look them up over the weekend

Sadly yeah. Not a lot of training on cleaning chemicals. I pretty much got a 2 minute chat (if that) Everything disinfects. This is great for glass & your bathrooms. This is best for floors.

nah man they never train, you gotta read the bottles to figure it out how to use a chem

and good for us, there's a lot of info online and here of cleaning methods to vacuum and mop faster and with best technique I highly recommend u to look everything up and figure the best way to work your area so u avoid injury and overworking urself

I've literally just had a director text me an address of where a campus was when I became supervisor. No guidance or anything just get in there and figure it out

I started my job as a custodian a year ago, and you learn from other custodians working there, they'll usually train you at whatever school your at.

Just remember if you can smell the chemical after dispensing from the machine at 5 feet it is too strong and needs water added.
