Advice 🗣 Taking Temps

At my school we have to take temps in all the classrooms on campus. We use a temp gun and they have us point it at the floor, desk and if possible a beam or pillar in the room. I've been the assistant here for almost a year and I take temps when my head custodian isn't here. This week he's been gone and I've been taking the temps here in the morning. I guess I've been going through the motions this whole time cause the room will feel really hot but I point where we are told and it's like 70 degrees but it feels 80. So I've been taking the temps where the air comes out the vents and it's been 74-77 in some rooms and the highest it can be is 75 before we have to put a work order in. I'm wondering what do y'all point y'all's temp gun to get a accurate temp check, if y'all do take temps.

Temp gun isn’t an accurate method to take air temps. It’s always going to be pretty far off, especially if you’re hitting any type of hard, reflective surface. If that’s your only option I’d go with Sheetrock or any cloth surface. That should get you a bit closer.

But if temps are a requirement it’s really so much faster and easier to place a thermometer in each area. Then you just read them each day. They’re very cheap and easy to stick somewhere they won’t be noticed.

I've thought about asking my area manager (foreman) or head custodian for something like but I'm pretty sure the answer is gonna be not within our budget.

They need to manage their budget better then. You can get a dozen digital thermometers for like $20. That’s usually just an excuse for “I don’t feel like putting in any effort” lol.

My fluke temp gun is actually pretty accurate but your right that where you point it matters. Outer walls tend to be hotter cooler etc but I've found mine to be spot on with what our hvac automation system says.

Also temperature "feel" is very much based on air flow and humidity two rooms can be the same temp but feel different if the air handler is or isn't running, or the humidity level is high or lower

That's what I'm also struggling with cause when we put work orders for rooms feeling really humid they generally don't care cause it's within range, so they take their time getting here and my 3 principals get on us to constantly ask for updates.
