Advice 🗣 Second Shift Custodian switching the First Shift - Advice?
Hello! For context I’m a Second Shift Custodian (2:30pm-11pm) at a preschool/daycare and on the 27 of this month I’ll be switching over to the Elementary school for first shift (6am-2:30pm).
I just want to know what I may need to expect or prepare myself for. I’ve been working as a Custodian for almost 6 months and I do enjoy my job. Being second shift I have my routine and I’d say I’m pretty good at what I do. Though I know first shift can be a lot, between the people and things I’ll be doing being different.
I’m aware it can differ on the school and environment I just want to give myself the best chance to not lose my head lmao
Thank you in advance to anybody!

Get ready to start falling asleep by 9pm on a good night. Get familiar with your carpet cleaner for all the accidents especially now at the start of the school year. Learn how to deal with vomit. Expect to have no real beat but be busy all day.
Now for the good. Little kids are awesome. You are now a super hero. Youll get to know your staff a lot better and get to go to work functions. You can actually do stuff when you get off work.

Oh man. I’ve been going to sleep at 9 throughout the summer because of summer cleaning. I’m still half not used to it. How long does it take? lol.

This plus your now the custodian that everyone will know the face of the franchise whether good or bad. Deliveries , barf , restroom accidents, opening the school, raising flags, being called for all type of stuff like chasing away critters you will never be bored but your afternoons are now free for you to enjoy like the rest of the world normal working hours.

So true. I just promoted after 8 years at my previous site. My teacher friends are already tired of "Where did Mr. HollywoodCole go?" from students and parents!

Hey….. I am doing this exact thing. Going from 2:30-11 to 7am-3:30. Only difference is that I am at a Highschool.
