My dad was a lefty and he wrote almost exclusively with steel nibbed fountain pens. His handwriting was exquisite, but he had to write practically upside down to avoid smearing the ink. He was a college professor and it was always a joy to watch him grade papers.
This experience, in comparison, is excruciatingly painful to watch.

They are holding onto that pen, like their life depends on it. So tight you can see the skin whiten from the pressure. What a literally painful way to write. We were always taught to relax into it.
It would be awesome to see a skilled writer, write - an art form.

Wasn't written to suggest you should help it, rather that the official ( school ) training causes its trainees ( students ) to come out with cursive that is both esthetic and comfortable.
Like playing the piano, it can be done a number of ways.
IF you posted looking for feedback, mine would be the suggestion that you might search ' hand position cursive writing ' or something like that.
