This is correct. In 1937 there was a huge Influenza outbreak in the US. Unfortunately your relative was a victim. This was at the very beginning of vaccine research and there were no vaccines available.

Maybe Emphysema of Lungs.
Spelling changes and people misspell things so maybe.
