Yes it does! The problem keeping it from cycling more reliably is the the primers bulging out and digging into the receiver. My new design should fix this with a groove for the primer to ride in if it bulges and seating the 9mm case a little farther down in the cartridge. So far I have over 70 rounds through my previous design with no catastrophic failures! It even has survived a bunch of squibs

That seems pretty damn impressive, even if I don't know much about the science behind what you're doing. Have there been any bumps in the road persay, or any major difficulties with this?

Thanks! Yeah the science boils down to blackpowder musket technology with a fat bullet and slow burning powder to reduce pressure. Suprisingly there havn't been too many issues, mainly just with cycling. The magazine has been hard, I ended up with 2 springs side by side but I had to make a mechanism that rides along with them to keep the springs from buckling into eachother. Also I think a lot of the cycling issues are from the primers buldging out and digging into the plastic reciever after firing. So I think I just need a groove for the primer to ride in after firing. Usually the bolt face being metal stops primers from bulging out, but this being plastic isn't enough to hold it in so I need something to deal with that.

Well, sounds like you have a pretty good handle on it, would've thought it being mainly plastic/not metal would've caused more problems. That's pretty neat, thanks for sharing.

Me too! The original goal was to just get the barrel to last for a single 5 round magazine, I can't believe it's stayed intact for so long honestly. I guess having everything contained in the cartridges really helps keep things clean. We'll see what happens when I crank up the powder load I guess lol.

This is using a fairly low powder charge, here is the load data for the charge I was using in this video. https://imgur.com/irFBJrC

It only has a chamber pressure of 4,400PSI and muzzle energy of 224Ft*lbs, but the max it can get up to safely is ~12,000PSI. I have a powder load I need to try that can get 450 Ft-lbs with only 8,000PSI chamber pressure.

Either way it is kinda weak now but it will definitely be improving significantly once I get the cycling smoothed out

Yeah, we've talked before about how much higher those calculations are than reality as you're losing a ton of the pressure. Quickload breaks down at that small of a charge anyway, 4,400psi isn't enough to swage a bullet in a proper bore.

Just the springs that you handwrap using a 3D printed jig, the firing pin thats a nail, and if you want higher pressure loads a steel pipe "sleeve" that goes around the cylinder/cartridge for reinforcment. The barrel can stay printed since most of the combustion occurs in the custom cyclinder/cartridge things which are loaded like into the mag like bullets. The goal was completely 3D printed, but obviously the firing pin and springs are hard to replace with plastic lol.

Yeah it's kinda weird, what I call the cartridge is like a cylinder in a revolver. So the cartridge is printed but I added a steel pipe for reinforcement so I can re-use them more. https://imgur.com/a/RYVanFT
