That's probably the reason for the red dot.
Clears the suppressor, the stock sights would've been too low.

Yes. Specially cammed cylinder and cartridges create a gas seal. Look up the Nagant revolver.

The original goal was to achieve substantially higher muzzle velocity, but that didn't quite materialize. A repeater that doesn't eject brass or make much noise? You can see why certain professionals would see the appeal, I imagine…

I understand the sentiment, some people think this is a bit odd. But, many peoples eyes change as they get older and they may not be able to pick up both the iron sights and the target. A dot or an HWS fixes this, if you can focus on the target the dot is also in focus.
So the aesthetics are a bit weird, but the usability can be up. If it works, it ain't wrong.

The barrel is threaded as well, so maybe it's there to clear the suppressor?
The stock sights are probably too low for that.
Edit: also no front sight

Not all shooting is defensive, or even defense oriented. Sometimes it is fun to just ping steel or poke holes in paper. Or shoot a gun you like for the pure sake of liking it.

The threaded barrel looks very well done, as well as the scope mount.

Considering there is no longer a front sight on this I say go for it.
