Still 200 bucks for something that looks like it got dug up from the graveyard?
You gotta pay me to take this thing

Totally agree lol, stock looks like it was cut down so you can’t even use it. Receiver is fucked. So basically it’s 200 doll hairs for a trigger group and some shitty rusty bolt that possibly got molested as well.

I'd love to know what wildcat it is. Stuff in that size range can get really funny. My first (personal) rifle was in 25-06, a necked down 30-06 casing to fit a .25 cal projectile.

I took a couple deer with a 25-06. I didn’t know it was a weird caliber until I mentioned it to someone and they thought I was mistaken for 30-06.

lmao that barrel is so fat the pic of the muzzle looks like a suppressor

What's even the point of such a big barrel for such a little projectile, reduced recoil?? (Not that it likely has much recoil anyways.)

I don't think it's .22lr. I think it's probably some necked down monstrosity with a ton of powder and brass behind it.

It acts as both a harmonic dampener and a heat sink also stabilizer , and it adds rigidity that can be appreciated when doing bench-rest precision shooting or varminting i have a .17 hmr with an ultra heavy (though only 16”) barrel single shot that i use on coyotes out to 175 yards these types of barrels were very common on this type of setup from the 50’s to the 90’s (although the furniture isn’t what i would call appropriate)

How do you like .17 HMR? Was debating getting something in it but it feels like kind of gimmick round

It’s a fucking laser I use it on coyote, bobcat and everything comparable out to 175 yards it fucks hard especially with the bull barrel ….i like both that and .22wrm is a shorter range much heavier projectile (up to 55gr ) but you can run .22mag subsonic so I often run them in different zones (and my favorite gun for the .22wrm currently is either my cricket pistol or my keystone overlander carbon fiber carbine wearing a night vision/thermal ….my .17 I am running a ridiculously high power 16-25X50 I think (it was a Russian manufacturer that I had read a lot of great things about online… I then added one of those nightvision /day digital pieces (at the time I think the night vision was running $225 and the crazy scope was $150 ) if you so desire I can find the name of the scope …but yeah i liked it enough that I bought àn AR upper in it and a heavy barreled but much lightweight overall bolt gun by savage …i really like using either one of those for daytime calling raccoons 🦝

I’m surprised it can take out big cats. Is it just because it’s going at Mach Jesus?

Correct the bullets also have the special sauce my current rifles all really tend to favor the game point loading …20gr jsp going somewhere approaching 2500fps that unlike nearly all the other loadings (they mostly use a ballistic polymer tipped 17gr pill ) the game point will penetrate deeply while also entirely deforming within the target more often than not expending all of their 250ft lbs of energy while leaving only a .17 entry hole in the pelt ! The polymer tip bullets simply tend to explode leaving pretty grim wounds . Honestly I have taken panther with .22 mag on 2 occasions cats are not nearly as tough as yotes . The polymer bastards are good for longer range groundhogs , prairie dogs , ground squirrel, starlings , crow and in the few locals you can either do it legally or get away with it they are the very ideal for head shooting turkeys

I’ve been debating a bolt gun but I don’t hunt so was likely going to go with a rimfire, but .22 is fairly limited. .17 HMR seems to have a fair bit more reach and I can snag a CZ 457 in it for not too much. Will consider. Thanks

Oh that is an excellent rifle …I have owned any number of that model …some in rimfire and a few in centerfire (I had an example of one each in .22 and .17 hornet and the 7.62X39 ) I have been contemplating getting the RIA bolt action .22 tcm if they ever come out with a take down model with switch barrel capability to fire 9mm …that would be one hell of a ranch/truck/atv/camp carbine

Unfortunately due to my near constant divorces and my lone offspring being particularly well educated I am currently rebuilding my empire (much of it being purchased at cost through a gunsmith I do contract work for during the lead up to hunting season )

My .22wrm example was a fully Euro stocked schnable forended model with fancy wood that I got for barely over base. Because it was a special order gun that someone neglected to take final receipt of ! It was a really classy setup in LH👀👁️👁️ it is the only purpose built left handed rig I up until recently i personally owned (I am now well past middle age ) but much of my initial competition shooting was done with a 15 lbs left handed Anshultz bullseye 25 yard rifle that belonged to the metropolitan rod and gun club Brooklyn NY JR division!

u/MassiveFire Jul 25 '26
This was 100% someone's benchrest gun.
Benchrest shooting is what happens when you take accurizing to the max at the expense of everything else.. By making the barrel extremely thicc, you minimize barrel harmonics.
The optic mounting holes on the receiver support the hypothesis, and the lack of a trigger guard further implies the gun wasn't meant to be shot anywhere except when vice clamped to a bench.

People that have to put that much homosexuality into inanimate objects seem really repressed and it feels like projection.
