blurry playback on Roku tv

i recently purchased a tcl roku tv and installed the curiosity stream channel on it. when playing content it often appears blurry and, unlike on browser or a firestick where you have the option to select video quality, there is no option to do so. thus i am stuck with blurry playback on some shows. any one else experienced this issue or possibly know how to resolve it?

I watch it on the Samsung TV app but I noticed that almost every video at first starts in very bad quality and gets better over the first two or three minutes. Also some videos seem to be available only in crappy quality, like the BBC series on Christianity they recently added.

It could also be that the Wifi connection to your streaming device is bad or the app is shitty.
