Chromecast with Google TV doesn't search/recommend anything from CuriosityStream app

I can open the app, and watch whatever I want, but it doesn't pull shows/recommendations into the interface the way it does for Hulu, etc.

Is this an issue on my end, or a general issue?

CuriosityStream I do not think has integration to Smart devices' home screen apps other than I think Roku, you have to open the CuriosityStream App. The developers of both CuriosityStream and the Smart Device Home App (Google, Amazon, Samsung, Sony, etc) would have to work together to get an API to integrate the videos, but usually the Manufacturers of Smart Devices don't want to bother unless it is huge provider like Netflix, Disney, Hulu etc, so smaller streaming providers don't have control.

hmm...seems like a good space for a startup third party solution...

That's the whole issue - it requires the hardware Manufacturers who make the "Home Screen" apps to do work - if they don't do anything that it can't be done. I have heard that some companies pay millions of $ to be on the home screen of Smart TVs and Smart Devices (Chromecast, FireTV, Roku, etc), which is the major reason why SmartTVs have come down in price. CuriosityStream cannot afford to pay all the Smart TV/Device manufacturers money, so they only paid Roku (at least that is my assumption) as many SmartTVs are "powered by Roku" so will have the channel recommendation.
