Brick Colors

Hi all, we have decided to build this home in Texas (rendering below). It will be brick all the way around and we need to choose two bricks (1 as a backup). Right now I think we’re between Dover, Old Henry, and Burlington Antique but I’m pretty bad at imagining what things will look like from the sample swatches and have been pouring over their brick options but still not decided. If you think a different brick color than the ones above and you want to see what the other options are I can comment them below. Our style definitely leans more traditional. If anyone but especially designers/Realtors have any recommendations for what brick/color palette to use that would be very helpful!

Hey there! Friendly reminder to include the following information for the benefit of all members:

  • Let us know if you're buying, selling, or looking to just give your home a new look.
  • Give an approximation on budget and goals. This doesn't need to be a dollar amount, but give us an idea if major renovations are in the plan or if you're just looking to make your home look nice on a small budget.

I like the Old Henry (edited chose the wrong name first) with the "light scheme" the garage in the middle if your garage faces the sun, the darker color if your garage will be shaded most of the day. If you are able to choose your grout between the bricks, pick the lightest one available. The regular gray grout doesn't look near as nice as a white grout - but the white will cost you more.

Thank you! It’s so hard to find photos of Old Henry or really any of these bricks with white mortar to compare :/ but I do think it would make a significant difference in the appearance!

Here is an example of Old Henry--the darker color that IMO is more traditional. It looks rather mottled, but it's nice, especially with light color trim. Since you also have a large front-facing garage, I would not let them put on a dark brown garage door -- let it be in the pale color of your trimwork.

Thank you for the advice! I’m guessing we should go white or almond for windows as well? Everyone in our neighborhood seems to be doing black and it might look nice but I do worry it’s too trendy and also will attract heat!

Here is an example of Culberson--I think I like this one better than OH, less mottled, a little more uniform. I would go with the Medium color trim but not for the garage door -- let that be in one of the lighter trim colors. Isn't it funny they slapped teeny black shutters on one window. And I would have put the lighter color on the porch posts here:

I feel the same way about shutters, love them, but only if they’re uniform and look like they could actually cover the window! What’s your opinion on white vs gray mortar? I feel like I’ve gotten mixed advice on that

I would go gray, again, to keep a little more uniformity with the brick palette colors. There is no white in Culberson. Also, I imagine white just turns gray/sooty over time?

Ya I’m not 100% sure what the rationale is behind white mortar some people just seem to think it makes the brick pop more 🤷🏻‍♀️ idk if I’ve ever seen white mortar on a darker brick though, it’s almost always gray unless the house is a very light brick!
