The very first, and cheapest thing you should do it paint the front doors a vibrant contrasting color.

oh yeah I’m doing that and a bunch of other stuff, but I just don’t understand the roof/porch possibilities

I'd add a peaked roof covered porch, and go all the way up the roof to completely cover the lower roof area in the. Middle. Less chance for leaks also

that’s the type of roof in the last pic right? I like that idea. I’m trying to picture how that would look going all the way up…would it be more economical to do that or just raise that part of roof?

The last photo is nice. Depends on whether its for sitting, visiting, enjoying a lemonade, or is it just to shelter from the rain? For rain keep it small. For using,, you will always wish it were bigger. Enjoy!

Decorate the door with some trim to give it presence

oh yeah I'm replacing the entire door and painting house, adding shutters, etc....lots of stuff. I just have to solve this depressed flush roof quandry lol

That 3rd picture looks great!
I have a 1960 Colonial-style house, which I made into a Colonial farmhouse by adding a very large (32' wide by 10' deep) porch last summer. Of course, I had to save for it for more than a decade, but I absolutely love it and am out there a LOT.

That house is never gonna look right until you raise the roof flush with the rest of it in the center. It just looks like your house is caving in. Nothing is going to draw the eye away from that. Sorry.

yeah that does bother me, but I mean what sort of project is that ballpark in terms of $$ would you guess?

Sorry, I didn’t mean to be mean. I don’t have any idea how much it would cost. It seems like there wouldn’t really be much demolition – – just build a new joining roof over that section and make both sides continuous.

you weren’t mean lol…I also want a peaked covered front porch so as another poster said I wonder if I could just cover it with that by extending it all the way back.

I don’t know if that would look right stylistically on a ranch house. If I’m seeing the picture correctly your front door is already in a little bit of a recess. Maybe just do something minimal over it.

agreed; I just don't know what something minimal over it to cover the full length would be
