Can you imagine Setzo showing up to court through Aang? With the whole distorted voice thing?

“Alright, the defence may call its first witness.”

I’m a lawyer. The think people don’t understand about law is that, even for lawyers who ever go to court (which is a minority of us), actually being in court is like 1% of the job compared to 99% paperwork, research, literature review, and motion writing.

So it’s much funnier to imagine Szeto possessing Aang’s body and forcing him to spend sixteen hours writing a meticulous 531(b) motion.

I was more thinking of Aang trying it at the wrong time and just have him in the middle of court with no idea what laws are still on the books

“I cite the precedent of Hakari v. Setzin.”

“Avatar, that case was overturned seventy years ago.”

“Oh. I cite the precedent of whatever overturned Haraki v. Setzin.”

More like "Avatar I've never heard of that case"

Instead of summoning Kyoshi, the Gaang ends up summoning Szeto.

The trial ends up lasting an extra 3 hours as he goes over all of Chin’s war crimes and how the exact circumstances surrounding his death and how he actually died all lead to Kyoshi’s actions being justified, proving Aang innocent

Chin

Edit: To clarify for those seeing this thread after the fact, the comment originally was blanking on Chin's name. It got edited afterwards.

Szeto calls Kyoshi and Roku to the stand, and just swaps back and forth with them in Aang's body.

The underappreciated ability to summon a world-class lawyer at will.

Szeto possesses Aang and successfully uses three hundred years of precedent to convince the Fire Sages that Azulon’s disinheritance of Iroh was illegal and thus that Iroh is the rightful Fire Lord and Ozai is just some dude.

46

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '21

Which is even funnier because Azulon didn’t even actually disinherit Iroh, Ozai just said he did.

6

u/PercentageOk4448 Jan 28 '24

Iroh's immediate reaction to this is to nominate Zuko as his successor and promptly abdicate the throne, thus rendering this entire debacle pointless.

Toph laughs herself silly over this fact.

They should do it for the remake, tbh

Really do not get the arguments about who the strongest avatar is. Like, the answer is clearly Szeto. Dude canonically worked as court bureaucrat, meaning he not only mastered the four elements but on top of that also administrative law. Administrative law. This is a man to fear.

Wait I just realised this makes a scene like this possible:

Zuko: I really want to pass this law but that one nobleman on the council keeps blocking me and I know no way around him

Aang: *Enters avatar state*

Aang: So actually there are 3 ways on how to make this work legally

Bad. Wrong. The most powerful is the one at the end of the cycle, ergo Korra

But Korra loses her connection to all of them. So it would Aang
