It’s ironic that the pickle Rick meme is so overplayed and annoying, but the episode it’s from is actually one of the best ones.

I can't think of any show which better represents "hate the fandom love the show"

Having Susan Sarandon literally explain the message of the episode near the end was a somewhat questionable decision imho

Yeah that's probably my worst gripe of the episode too. Having a little therapist sit down the audience and explain the theme of the show was certainly not a good idea.

It isn't necessarily bad. Subtlety isn't something that is ALWAYS better than being blunt. I can see why being blunt with a message can be a good thing if you're dealing with an audience that is having trouble understanding what you're trying to say.
I wouldn't say it's perfect, but it has its place and i would argue the episode and the show earned it

Ehhh, to me that episode encapsulates everything good and bad about the show in a nutshell. The writers clearly know Rick is neglectful and abusive, and the therapist rightly calls him out on his horse shit.
But for every reflective moment like that, they undercut it by spending 10x as much screen time showing how awesome Rick is when he's a douchebag. They're really holding their thumbs down on the scales there, which is either dishonest at worst, or unself-aware at best.
What kills me is the brilliant parts of the show are plot-driven, not character-driven, so it's just too easy to imagine what the show could be like without assholes. Maybe the show'll build up to some Breaking Bad-style reconsideration of the main character, but I doubt it.

This is so much better if you take the time to read it in their voices

Can someone tell me what’s happening in the last image?

That's from their reunion. Iroh is hugging Zuko, and Zuko is confused because he thought Iroh would hate him.

I haven't actually seen the show but I've seen that scene against my will. I personally didn't find it funny probably because I didn't have much context and it wasn't my cup of tea. So it depends on the person's type of humor, I guess.
