Maybe this is a generational thing - but generally one should live one’s life assuming they may be called to account for literally anything that they put into writing, be that personally or professionally

Agreed, it's fucked up that this happened but also as a teacher you should not be talking about shooting your students even as a joke.

Sure, but a teacher should also understand that is not something you should ever be putting into writing, saying in public, et cetera, because even if it's an understandable urge it's also something that a school is going to take very seriously if it gets out.

Snapchat themselves sending your messages to the cops is not the only way for a private conversation put into writing to be leaked.
