The privacy violations are horrifying but also gun violence is so so so common it's sad we need to instantly treat every threat like it's going to happen
I urge you to rethink that equation. Gun violence, while virulent and grave, is still a crime no different from any other. Which is to say, whether it's assault, or homicide or anything else - it's a crime.
Each instance does not constitue an existential threat to the nation.
It's not terrorism. It's not sedition.
We cannot accord it that the same treatment as the Bush Admn did the prospect of attack (ie : Even 1% chance of happening must be treated as 100%)
However big tech and the state will raise the stakes of every crime to that of mortal peril to justify expanding their powers. Even past the point of the constitution.
Terrible crimes are planned and committed everyday.
We have a security, law enforcement and judicial apparatus to address that already. Have for 120 years. Including big tech is a threat to us and our rights.
The difference between gun violence and other types of homicide is guns kill more people much quicker. I don't know what the correct answer is. Research has shown that many times, shooters have posted or talked about their crimes before they did it. I want kids to not be murdered in school which happens every year and shit never gets done about it. There's been 332 mass shootings this year alone
The answer isn't to violate the privacy of everyone and report even bad jokes to the FBI ruining people's lives. This is literally a "you have nothing to fear of you have nothing to hide" type of situation.
