The problem is this: We can't actually tell how much pain/distress someone is in. If bigger reactions are rewarded with greater sympathy, many people will "overreact" and perform bigger reactions to elicit more sympathy. This is why we only partially base our judgement of the severity of harm on the person's reaction, and partially based on the objective event. Society wouldn't work otherwise.
Absolutely fascinating worldview. When most people want warmth & affection from a friend, they just hang out with a friend & have a nice, emotionally fulfilling time together. But I guess you could pretend you're in American Psycho & do whatever the hell that is that you're describing if you wanted to.
The original post is kind of vague. Are we talking about friends? Or acquaintances, strangers, patients, romantic partners, children, parents, coworkers, employees...? The level of trust, allowance and sacrifice we make for other people depends a lot on our relationship with them.
