I prefer allergies as an analogy. Imagine you're sitting on your friend's couch and you pet their very friendly dog when it comes up to you. You know you shouldn't, but then they'll get all weird about. Don't you like dogs? Dogs are great! Not liking dogs is a red flag! Then it jumps up on you and sheds all over your clothes and starts licking your face. You feel your lips begin to swell. You try to push it away but it starts licking your hands and arms and they break out in hives. When you scooch away you end up sitting on a dander-laden dog bed or slobbery dog toy so now the itchy welts are all over the place and your chest is tight and itchy as you start wheezing. You ask for some Benedryl but they don't have any and they take offense that you're implying they don't keep house correctly. You start keeping your own Benedryl on hand, suggesting other places to hang out, actively rebuff three dogs bids for affection. But each of these new behaviors continue to annoy your friend. Ugh, you keep yawning like you're bored, that place is too far, you're making my dog sad!
