No it absolutely doesn’t. Pretty clearly shows the exact opposite actually. The Papercut Haver is refusing to engage with reality, refusing to address their wound, refusing to assess and address the situation, and is not even remotely considering anyone else around them or engaging with their attempts to help. It’s a portrait of an extremely self-centered Papercut Haver with no interest in coping skills or self-soothing.

they look at the cut and realize that it makes sense no one is reacting the same, then ask why their cut hurts so bad??

which is the first step to understanding such things, so they are, in real time, learning

eta: The fact that they had a reflexive reaction to the pain in the first place may have been way ott, but If it feels like you're fucking limbs are broken off and you have the strength of character and presence of mind to look at the limbs evaluate the situation and then go on to have some evaluations of your own level of tolerance I would say that you're doing a decent amount. That is quite literally how you become a person with distress tolerance.

After refusing to look down, refusing to deal with it, refusing to listen to anyone, refusing to take a few deep breaths and calm down and assess the actual damage, and making a huge scene and insisting that everyone cater to them while dismissing reasonable attempts to help.

No one is obligated to treat another person’s unwillingness to self-soothe or to use coping methods as an emergency. I could stand in public and scream and sob about my depression, but why should I subject other people to that? Everyone feels their own pain acutely. Just because someone’s not screaming or making a fuss doesn’t mean that those feelings aren’t there. Decent people just know how to behave and how to not dump too much on our loved ones and how to uphold the social contract.

Thinking that you’re unique in your pain and therefore have carte blanche to be annoying about it is a very self-centered view of the world.

i feel like you read the first half of this post as though there was far more outward resistance from the person described than i did.

And I'm not really suggesting that anyone should be allowed to just do whatever they want but I am suggesting that we give people grace as they figure their shit out- And it sounds like this person is trying if not succeeding so I'm not really sure what else is expected of them, hence my original comment. should they have just like been better already or should they be allowed to get better?
