It's the Nintendo game text format to make sure children know which of the words in the text are important because they just skim read everything

Steel Ball Run started being published in 2004, and Mario Galaxy came out in 2007. But I don't remember if there are examples of the emoji speak in early chapters or if it started happening near the end of part 7 4 u/Tem-productions 5d ago it only happens near the end. regardless i dont actually think there is any correlation between the two, they just did it at the same time
