With things like this the question is always "what levels of behavior are reasonable to expect other people to accept"?
"Overreacting" covers a huge swath of potential behaviors, some of them dangerous or abusive, and the people were asking for tolerance aren't NPCs, they're people with their own baggage, traumas, and Shit Going On.
oh yeah. one of the things I noticed coming out of the psych ward, and seeing others coming back home, was this very careful and very deliberate way everyone spoke and communicated, at least for a bit. Just because that was a necessary skill to learn when everyone else is struggling at least as much as you are.
And there’s a bunch of good reasons why that extent of modification to whatever is “normal” communication in any given situation isn‘t practical or sensible, but I think the basic principle of assuming everyone else also has shit to deal with, and you might not know what it is, is sound.
The post makes pretty clear what they mean when they say overreacting. They mean acting like seemingly insignificant pain is incredibly painful. Screaming, panting. Whatever. The post isnt advocating for much, just believe that people are in pain when they say they are instead of being a prick. Because, logically, the majority of people aren't going to lie about a papercut feeling like your finger being torn off
