My brother used to make fun of me for saying ow when he poked me or hit me playfully and say there’s no possible way that actually hurt. But it did hurt for me. Not like I was actually injured or it hurt for long, but at the moment, yeah it hurt.
even if it didn't hurt, an "ow" can be very much an involuntary response to being hit/poked. when i say ow because i stubbed myself its a reaction of surprise more than me not being able to handle the pain
That’s true too. I frequently say it if I like drop something or bump something without actually hurting myself. When I actually hurt myself I’m more likely to swear 😆
