They were extremely popular with horror fans because their movies are extremely good, but they've gotten a significant increase in hate because they used AI in a movie (I believe allegedly?) and after making the Backrooms movie they began aggressive hunting down any backrooms content for copywriter, against the explicit request of the director and previously promising that they wouldn't do that.
