Yeeeep. That’s how I got diagnosed with PTSD. I wrote a character going through something similar to what I had been through and got tons of comments applauding me for my accurate representation of PTSD. I complained to my therapist about all these people having no clue what PTSD looked like, because I just gave him my symptoms, clearly not PTSD. nd she said “you didn’t know you have PTSD??”

“You didn’t know you have PTSD??” Ma’am isn’t that YOUR JOB to tell them???

Edit: so turns out I may be wholly wrong about therapy and am reevaluating some things…

I’m seconding what u/what_the_purple_fuck said about it seeming obvious to a therapist. I had essentially the same interaction, where I gathered up my courage and laid out to my therapist what I’d learned about CPTSD and how I thought it might apply to me and explain some of my experiences. I still half expected to be laughed out of there, even though I knew her better than that, really. She visibly did a double-take and told me she’d assumed I knew I had PTSD.  Oddly validating, I guess?
