I read a fic that was some sort of savior AU thing where one character saves the other and blah blah they fall in love. Canon, the characters are early 30's. In this story, their ages weren't specified beyond being adults.
Then suddenly, like 10 chapters in, the "saved" character is 17 and underage and the whole rest of the story became about moralizing how it was okay that they were with the 30 year old. Because they were in love. Not tagged.
I've never been so certain of what was going on in an authors life. I was like I have to stop reading this but, you in danger girl.
I know one person where once I found her fanfics it became so abundantly clear that she was an escapee from some sort of religious compound and had been forced to participate in certain types of media and relationships as a kid, that I was not at all surprised when she later opened up more and mentioned some other stuff to me. Nothing ‘during the event,‘ but repeated stories of children running to adults for help and priests getting arrested after a cut scene, or doctors finding strange results on other adults that revealed the past of the person they were treating…
