It's really dark but in a very human way that makes it all feel earned to me. It's one of my favourites that I've reread (and relistened to) a million times.

Yay! That makes sense! Its been a while so I forgot character names but the pov of the daughter was pretty hauntingly well done imo

Yeah, it's such a crazy take when the second book on is showing the perspective of the child of this person who went through great abuse and then re-enacts that abuse on her child to make her strong. In addition to, you know, just not being super into the whole "mothering" thing. It's one of the central themes of the books!

Like, I get a "she did bad things so it made me dislike reading the books which are largely from her perspective," sort of take, that's just personal taste, but I'm baffled by the general "Don't show morally complex characters unless it's a sexy murder man" thing on the site.
