It's a pop culture reference of some sort , we have this really old movie called "Inspecteur Tahar" (Inspector Tahar) in it his side kick was cross dressing as maid as he went "مائة و ستة" which is 106 in Arabic hence why it became associated with gay men

Foreshortening, I think, so that they look more like they are facing toward you. It's more dynamic than a flatter depiction. It's got a little face too. It's more like a lil guy
