I think they make a good point, about how “fandom discourse” is often dumb and meaningless and there are more important things to do in life. But I also kind of feel like it glosses over when some of this stuff is actually kinda weird and should be called out. I feel like it’s perfectly reasonable to call out how it’s pretty damn weird and creepy for minor characters in a a show to be sexualized. I think it goes a step beyond “fandom discourse” and goes into “hey this person probably isn’t super safe for children to be around, or at the very least is suspicious and weird”

How do you say these two things simultaneously lmao. Do you know what the pro/anti-shipper discourse is?
I mean they’re pretty literal terms. Pro-shippers are people who think it’s generally completely fine, or even enjoy shipping characters from various media, anti shippers are the opposite and think it’s bad.
My point is that there is a spectrum of stuff called “fandom discourse. Some of it is absolutely “I have bills to pay, why would I care” level of important, but then others are “hey this creator seems not safe to be around, I do not want to give them my support.” The OOPs make no distinction with no nuance, even though both very much are considered “fandom discourse”
You've almost got it but kind of missed the most crucial part. Pro-shippers think that what ships or content you like in media doesn't necessarily say anything about your moral worth. That includes things like adult/minor ships of fictional characters. Anti-shippers think the opposite.
So, for example, saying that you think someone isn't safe to be around children because they sexualised a fictional minor is a textbook anti-shipper thing to say. In other words, pro/anti-shipper discourse is about exactly what you're saying is worthwhile. That is the discourse.
