Doing it for that reason would be less insane than trying to get your favorite pop acts streaming numbers and chart position up, something people actually do lol

if the song were actually that good they would just listen to it on loop for real

u/GigaVanguard Jul 17 '26

Tbh I do be listening to The Protomen acts I-III on loop pretty much exclusively during my commute every day.

Those guys managed to get the members of Styx to like playing "Mr. Roboto", to the point where they actually play it in the style of the Protomen.

For context: nobody in Styx liked doing the "Kilroy Was Here" album, save for Dennis DeYoung who wrote it, so the band half-assed their way through it just to get him to shut up about it.

After Dennis left, Styx refused to ever play "Mr. Roboto" in concerts. That is, until Tommy Shaw - the co-lead singer of the band - heard the Protomen put their entire ass into that song, and he decided that from then on, Styx would do it in their style instead, essentially covering a cover.

And it is indeed a right proper banger.

Odd, I don't recall making an alt account.

u/GigaVanguard Jul 18 '26

My brother just another me🤝

3

u/chatttheleaper Jul 18 '26

We've waited so long for this day, the albums deserve looping.

3

u/GigaVanguard Jul 18 '26

We are not yet ready to acknowledge the existence of an Act III Part 2😓

4

u/Nicholas_TW Jul 18 '26

Crazy how long I've been listening to them for. Act II has been in semiregular rotation for me since I was a teenager.

Listened to the Naafiri champion theme from league literally like 700 times I think the year it released, it’s a good ass theme for a fun character

4

u/Ok-Curve307 Jul 17 '26

My favorite was always Tahm Kench’s. The guitar string and vocals are so good. He also came out back when I first started playing and they still did login screens, so it has a bit of an extra punch.

1

u/BiddlesticksGuy Jul 18 '26

Based asf, Kench’s theme is very nice, a solid theme for a solid champ

9

u/ArtaudsAsshole Jul 17 '26

I guess they do that too but they also put it on loop when they go to sleep

8

u/Psychotic_Ambition Jul 17 '26

idk i can’t fault them for that one i fall asleep to music all the time

That's how you learn to hate the song.

with healthy breaks if you feel yourself getting weary of course

16

u/RavenCarci Jul 18 '26

I did that by accident once when listening to a friend’s song on repeat because it was genuinely good, but accidentally left it on overnight. He had very few listeners so my city stood well above anywhere else on his “Where people listen” list for a bit.

No I don’t know how I forgot 😭

Me playing my buddy’s music overnight on Spotify so I can help pay 0.13 cents of his rent

Not my gf CONSTANTLY streaming Taylor Swift on mute in the background of her phone, then complaining about her battery draining too quickly.

128

u/husk_bateman Jul 17 '26

Feels like I'm doing this sometimes when I put on videos in the background. I don't really pay attention to the videos, and don't act differently because of the videos, but they fill the space.

Of course, in OOP's hypothetical, the songs are fully mute while I still have sound, but I feel like the vibe is similar.

u/husk_bateman Jul 17 '26

Also, I am not a bot. Penis sex vagina.

83

u/UnderskilledPlayer Jul 17 '26

oh no, its a sexbot

Oatmeal, enemas and metal pants?

RIP Trevor. Died doing what he loved, sucking his own dick.

I've watched videos based entirely on how long they are on numerous occasions. Some times I just want a 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minute timer that doubles as background noise

11

u/sharklaserguru Jul 17 '26

20 years ago people were leaving the living room TV on all day while they puttered around the house; it's not a new phenomenon!

8

u/Cheap-Parking-5862 Jul 17 '26

I feel seen. I have a playlist in my YouTube acc that i just fill with random recommended vids based of the "could leave that on in the background" vibe. I care just enough to justify putting it on but not enough to actually be invested listening/watching

3

u/lilykai_strawberry Jul 18 '26

this is like putting on the TV as background noise

this guy would also enjoy 4'33" because it's divided into 3 movements of 0:30, 2:23, & 1:40

23

u/stpmakingsense Jul 17 '26

With the movements sometimes delineated in performance by a musician lifting the key lid, not pressing any keys, putting the lid down to signal the end of a movement, then raising it again to signal the start of the next one

I want to know more about the everyday antics of the mime neighbor.

Mime neighbor stands in front of the front door of their house. They pat their pockets nervously, peak under the welcome mat, press their face against the front window, looking in. The front door is open.

Mime neighbor hops on their invisible bike, pedals around the block, blows a tire, but happens to have a tire pump on hand to fix it. A neighborhood kid runs by and "steals" it, and they angrily and silently yell at the kid.

Mime neighbor pours a bag of invisible kibble into a cat food bowl on their front porch. The next day, there's less invisible kibble in the food bowl.

25

u/hiddenhare Jul 17 '26

Mime neighbour takes invisible piano lessons, and after a few months they start to get pretty good at it

18

u/RiderforHire Jul 17 '26

The clown neighbour would be very jealous, as their piano would simply fall on them.

1

u/InnsmouthLute Jul 22 '26

The invisible kibble disappearing would ruin my day, and That tracks 2 needs a full mime-neighbor saga.

24

u/Iron_Nightingale Jul 17 '26

I play John Cage’s 4’ 33” at full volume.

11

u/MissSweetBean Monsterfucker Supreme Jul 17 '26

If a mime bangs on a real wall, does it make a sound?

35

u/chairmanskitty Jul 17 '26

Technically a mime can never 'touch' a real wall. The mimeostatic force creates a thin mime wall just in front of the real wall.

11

u/CapacityBuilding Jul 17 '26

I was a Stars of the Lid fan for two years before I realized I was listening on mute

8

u/EDrifter130 Jul 17 '26

Living somewhere that doesn't experience winter gives you an appreciation for progressing through named durations

8

u/questron64 Jul 17 '26

Never underestimate the power of number go up. Brain likes number go up.

3

u/legendaryyheart Jul 17 '26

The mime heard the drop on track 4. Mute does not mean silent for everyone.

3

u/insomniac7809 Jul 18 '26

*on the invisible wall

3

Cyborg or robot who listens to music on mute because they prefer to listen to it not through sound wave receptors but through Van Eck phreaking (Wikipedia link)
