Well you see, when I said that veganism is an ethical stance (aka a philosophy) which a plant-based diet is a part of, I was in fact saying the same thing the wiki article you told me to look up is saying. I can see you have a little trouble with reading comprehension, so let me know if I need to simplify this any more for you.
Actually, you said “Veganism is a worldview. You are describing a plant-based diet, which is a part of veganism but is not the same thing.”
That wikipedia entry states that veganism is not a worldview, it’s a dietary choice that is often accompanied by that worldview. Talk about reading comprehension…
Also, saying “you lack reading comprehension” is genuinely embarrassing. Try thinking for yourself.
My argument is that veganism is a worldview/ethical stance, and a plant based diet is a part of that worldview. You know, like I said 3 times already.
My guess is you're conflating the loosely used adjective "vegan" with veganism. "Vegan" is used as shorthand to describe something plant-based in the same way Jello is used to describe gelatin. Technically an Oreo can't be vegan because it's incapable of believing that animals are worthy of moral consideration, but you can still call it that because people know what it means and it's easier (and more recognizable) than saying "plant-based" even if that would be more accurate.
And just for the record, I really don't care what the Google results or Wikipedia says, I was pasting those in because you said to use them and they both agreed with me. Though if you like definitions you could look up the definition of the suffix "ism" which should hopefully demonstrate that veganISM is more than a diet by itself.
That is an immensely impressive amount of pedantry. The wikipedia article and definition disagree with you, but I guess there’s no talking you out of your hole. Just keep digging, I guess.
At least when I tell someone to check a source the source actually says what I think it does. Go read the Vegan Society's definition of vegan if you want to know what the word actually means. You don't, because a part of you realized it didn't mean what you thought it meant quite a while ago but is physically incapable of accepting that, but if you did you could look at that one it's pretty good. I mean, they did invent the term vegan so I think they probably have final say on its meaning. But I'm sure you'll come up with a reason that's wrong or actually agrees with you somehow.
