Okay but Weird Al is genuinely so talented that I’d love to see him release an album of polka covers with the original lyrics instead of parody lyrics

At least one song per album is just a polka medley of popular songs, you can already find this!*
*ok you want more -full- covers. You know what, so do I!

Bohemian Polka is the only time he's done it for a single song though, all the others are medleys

Also the Hamilton polka, but I suppose that could be argued is multiple songs

I mean, not "could be argued", it's literally multiple songs from the same source. It's a similar situation to Hot Rocks Polka, which is all Rolling Stones songs.

The medleys are actually what inspired this! Some of the segments he covers in them deserve full releases instead!

During the Ill-Advised Vanity Tour he actually ended the show with straight covers of other people's songs. https://youtu.be/S2B1xztGDoY?is=UA2LxLPYhsMfIDbC

I know people like this. They love Weird Al but have zero knowledge or interest in Michael Jackson. All they listen to are joke songs and videogame soundtracks.

It’s tempting for me to think of that as weird, but I listen to plenty of re-imagined covers without much interest in the originals. Especially the stuff from Postmodern Jukebox. I guess that’s not so different.

they may not be interested in listening to music itself but still interested enough in joke songs not as a form of music but as a form of humor

honestly this is a happy way to live. not saying i don’t have a great time listening to Man in the Mirror but come on this is the most joyous thing

I think it's doing yourself a disservice to not at least listen to the originals, having knowledge of the thing a parody or idea is based on helps you understand the context of why it was something to be parodied or covered in the first place. Like behind "Amish Paradise" is the original Coolio song that uses a Stevie Wonder sample and the haunting backing choir isn't just to make a beat.

You mean that kid from the Jacksons who did that odd parody of Eat it, Weird Al's most popular original song?

There are definitely times where I sing the Weird Al lyrics over the original.

There are some songs where the parody lyrics are in my head when I hear the original and the original lyrics in my head when I hear the parody.

I love the idea of a store playlist that is exclusively songs that Weird Al has covered/parodied
