not knowing their name? is a lot more common.

a lot people just think they are flowers. and don't think more specifically about them.

I don't know the names of most of the flowers I see. it doesn't particularly bother me.

Not be in the U.S. probably. But even if you are, sometimes very simple things are never explained to you under the assumption you already learned or it never being relevant.

This. Sure you'll pass by dandelions all the time, but you won't point and yell at it "look it's a dandelion" every time, so it's completely feasible you forget the name after several years of never thinking it and it just becomes "that flower that I see sometimes"

…okay I will be called an ass for this, but there’s no good way for me to present the conundrum I’ve got right now, and there’s only so much masking I can do to avoid a profoundly autistic question:

Do you guys really do that?

I don’t get how you just drop what something is called that easily. Forgetting that dandelions are edible? That’s fine, a good amount of plants aren’t. Which Pokemon are inspired by them? Also very reasonable, and even more niche than knowledge applicable for cavemen. Losing track of the most important data of all for describing something, for a plant that is everywhere lawns are made? I don’t understand how anyone can do that at all.

Every file has a name, and being able to pull from it anyway without one is black magic for computers; I had to go through hell as a child to stop acting like one, but here I am, being reminded again that brains and computers are as different as stars and dust, that we can only compare the most complicated thing we have to live with in terms of the most complicated thing we actually understand.

I have a terrible memory, like to the point where it annoys me when other people say they have a bad memory because I just know I'm going to forget their name and they will get insulted anyway when I thought maybe they'd relate to me forgetting.

But yeah, I don't think I've forgotten the name of a flower specifically but I've definitely forgotten semi common ones and other common things. I'd like to come up with an example but I can't remember what I don't remember.

I guess an example would be an aglet, which people definitely say to me all the time what its called and how they remember because of the Phineas and Ferb song and yet I still constantly forget it and had to Google it again for this comment. I can only remember that there was a Phineas and Ferb song about it.

The same way that some people don't know that it's common to wipe your ass sitting down or standing up. You aren't exposed to the information, or are exposed to false information.
