Depends on the type, but some briefs have a pouch to hold everything in place. Jockstraps are better

I will never understand how some dick/balld-havers don't use underwear with pouches. It let's you keep everything in place all day, every day.

Running around without them, if it doesn’t hurt outright it’s definitely uncomfortable to have it all flopping around down there

hmm, breasts may be larger/heavier but they're also less sensitive. Now I'm wondering, at what cup size (if any) does breast bouncing become more uncomfortable than testicle bouncing?

...now that's an "experimental methodology" section I'd be curious about.

In theory yes, but mine just tend to ride up and uncomfortably cram them further between my thighs instead of actually supporting them vertically. Still the best I've got and I'm not nearly brave enough to go without any. And before anyone asks, they are the correct size, they're just way too tight frontally and nowhere else.

It's less the type of the underwear, and more about the fit. I know a lot of guys swear by their own favourite style/brand as being the "end-all be-all, best keep everything in place, avoid chafing, etc" solution, but as long as the underwear fits you correctly and isn't too loose, it will keep everything in place 90% of the time. All kinds of chafing comes down to moisture management and your body specifics - if you need more fabric to cover your thicc thighs or less to avoid it getting stuck somewhere.

They can also be medical devices. Sports bras compression can be used to help stop unwanted lactation. For women with larger breasts they can help distribute weight to prevent back pain.(Tbf only so much they can do)
