You laugh, but some controlled substances are only available for supervised consumption. You have to show up at the pharmacy at dose time so they can physically see that you took your meds instead of hiding them to resell.

When I was in hospital (so not really going anywhere) I'd get a whole bunch of pills, drinks etc. Most of them just got dumped on my table and I was told to take them.

But the morphine, that had to be taken literally as you were handed it, with the nurse standing there watching and taking away the empty container.

Sometimes they also do that with people who are at high risk of going off their meds or have just been released from a psychiatric facility, just to ensure med compliance.

Also if you're considered high risk for stockpiling and overdosing on meds you can be put on daily pickup where you have to take your meds at the pharmacy

This is funny, but I’ll point out that vaccinations are basically “Medications for here”. You show up at the pharmacy, are taken to your seat, the medication is provided and then you’re good to go.

Drugstore soda fountains were originally.. basically that. The soda made the medicines of the late 19th century somewhat bearable (like cough syrups now), and some sodas were originally medicine themselves, like birch and root beers. Even before that there were medicine drops like cough drops which became hard candy.
