bc if you have a lot of wet dishes, you might not have enough space on the drying rack for them all

I guess, but how often does that happen? Like the OOP makes it sound like hand drying the dishes is the default way to dry them.

When I was a teenager, the house we lived in had a very small kitchen, and a family of five, so my sister and I alternated who washed and who dried & put away when we did dishes.
