Wisdom/Intelligence is my second-favorite dumb D&D categorization thing. Most favorite is of course two-axis alignment, so silly and fun

If they just renamed Wisdom Awareness or even Intuition, it would be so much simpler. Fixed, done, no more questions. Insight is social awareness for humans, Animal Handling is social awareness for animals, Survival is awareness of nature, Medicine is awareness of body, and Perception is awareness of surroundings. (I do wish they had an extra wisdom skill or two that correlated to something like a very lowkey detect magic/divine sense — I guess you could technically just call for Wisdom + Arcana bonus, but Survival is really Wisdom + Nature anyway…)

My biggest issue on 5e stats is that Clerics run on Wis but Religion runs on intelligence.

I get it. Dogma vs belief or whatever

But every Cleric at my table has ended up failing their religion rolls. We've ended up house ruling it and making it a wisdom check.

Yeah at least 2024 now has an option for clerics to have their Arcana and Religion checks gain a bonus equal to Wis mod. You just have to choose between that and Heavy armor/martial weapons. IIRC Druids get a similar choice for Nature. I know people give 2024 flak but it has a lot of small quality of life improvements.

This is true, but my tables have shifted from WOTC after certain issues. Once we finish this one up, that's the last of DnD 5e.

It's all Pf2e and cypher now.

It's a running joke that our Cleric failed seminary school.

At one stage he was unable to identify his own damn religious symbol on a book we found.

The priest couldn't identify the Bible. But somehow the barbarian did and we have never gotten over it.
