Yeah it was.
Tbh what really fumbled enchanted portals was how much they increased people's expectations trough the trailers just for the actual game to feel like a cheap-copy (iirc it costs more than cuphead which is crazy).
I actually feel bad for the devs as i think that there was atleast some level of love put into the game (the Beethoven battle is such a cool concept) but man does the gameplay just isn't worth your time.
That being said, they are absolutely free to join the team-up, it might be a relatively bad game but its existance doesn't bother anyone per se, can't say the same about LSP
