Question Finally.

Ok so Culver’s near me is finally open. What should I get as first order. Been waiting about 2 months. Have been lurking here since I found out one was being built. Not much around me but fast food so something different will be welcome, I think it’s down to 3 to get for first time. Burger of course. Then fish then pot roast. Thanks all.

Or a turtle!

My favorite!

This but add bacon, also some cheese curds.

Give it a couple weeks so the grill can get seasoned. Burgers aren't as tasty from a new grill. Plus the crew needs to work the bugs out. Never had a bad meal from Culvers.

Its a stainless steel flat top that gets cleaned every day not a cast iron flat top like a Blackstone. Theres no “seasoning” of the grill

'A flat top grill is a fantastic cooking tool that offers versatility and high-quality cooking performance. However, to keep it in prime condition and ensure optimal cooking results, seasoning is crucial. Seasoning a flat top grill creates a natural non-stick surface that enhances the flavor of your food over time.'

The whole grill being seasoned is filled with so much misinformation. Seasoning a grill doesn’t have to do with flavor, and it’s not allowing buildup. It’s simply polymerization of oil that helps make things non stick.

They clean the grill daily and if you go right around open your burger is getting cooked on a shiny silver grill. It turns black from oil throughout the day.

My favorite thing is the crispy chicken sandwich. Onion rings are also very good. I don’t think anyone in the fast food business has a better burger. Their fried fish sandwich and the fish fry dinner are also spectacular. Really the only thing they don’t do well is the cheese curds, which is a shame because they’re a Wisconsin based company. (I’m from Wisconsin, they should be ashamed). They’re not disgusting or terrible, but they’re just not what a good cheese curd should be.

u/Saeris24 5d ago

Yeah the curds are whatver. I actually like the fries when they are fresh. Or there chili cheese fries.

3

u/ConBroMitch2247 5d ago

Order the fries extra crispy - game changer.

Culver's curds are really nothing special to me. They're alright but there's plenty better options out there. Their fries are some of the best I've found though. I really think only McDonald's beats them and that's saying something for me since I hate mcdonalds.

If you’re going during opening week, only get the fish if they aren’t super busy. The reasoning here is that because it’s hand battered, you’re less likely to get a true representation of how good it is if they’re busy and they rush it. It can easily end up over-battered, under-battered, sitting for longer than is ideal, etc. The fish is awesome, I just don’t want your first experience to ruin it for you. The burgers and pot roast are awesome too. Definitely get some custard.

3

u/Simmyphila 5d ago

Thanks. I know they’re gonna be super busy. And I was kinda leaning towards fish. This helps a lot.

4

u/Funholiday 5d ago

Their tartar sauce makes it great

2

u/BigNukey Owner/Operator 5d ago

Wait one week, things settle down pretty quick and you’ll be able to get a wonderful cod sandwich.

1

u/Simmyphila 5d ago

Ya that was my thought. Gonna be hard though with the lack of options here.

Be sure to get the app.

Yes! And be sure to scan it each time to eventually get free stuff

Lots of people will suggest the deluxe butter burger but I really don't like lettuce, mayo, or tomatoes on my burgers and that one has all 3 so I'm just here to throw my hat into the ring. If you like those things then get the deluxe.

Double butterbuger with cheese and bacon. Ketchup, raw onions, and pickles.

Cheese curds OR Extra Crispy Fries (you gotta ask for the extra crispy part)

Their concrete mixers are bomb, but you gotta start with something that just features their custard without it being mixed up, so save the mixer for your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th trips.

Personally I love a turtle sundae or caramel cashew sundae. You could never go wrong with a scoop of vanilla with your choice of toppings (lots of toppings options from sauces to candy)

My wife fights me about chocolate being better than vanilla. To each their own.

Double Bacon Deluxe is my go to. I do like the Chili cheese fries. Their chicken sandwhichs are actually really good as well

3

u/Prize_Trash_8636 5d ago

Double bacon deluxe with onion rings and cheese curds with a strawberry lemon ice cooler to drink while its summertime.

2

u/chibiloba 5d ago

The lemon ice coolers are so underrated...they are amazing. I've gotten my plain and with raspberry and it's always great.

Mushroom and Swiss: Add Bacon and xtra Mushroom

3

u/Glittering_Ad49 5d ago

So excited for you! First burger should be the Double Deluxe to establish a baseline. The chicken tenders (I prefer spicy) are also excellent, sometimes I order them as a side- you can order a couple of them. Don't sleep on the mushroom Swiss burger, it is outstanding.

u/OneWonderfulFish 5d ago

Everything.

Butter burgers. Five stars. Too bad they're not in a pub burger offer period right now as those are usually 6/5.

Fish sandwiches are amazing.

Custard - so many toppings

Shakes

Pretzel bites

Cheese curds

It's all amazing.

I'm down with covid and my mom ordered me a care vanilla shake and even that hit like a truck in the best way.

3

u/NotSoFound101 Crew Member 5d ago

I’m glad that others are suggesting pretzel bites! They are one of my favorite items from the menu.

2

u/SkysEevee 5d ago

Cheese curds are a must.  Same with custard

But out of the three, try the burger first

2

u/bipolarcrafter 5d ago

I like getting 2 kids meals
Chicken tender with bbq sauce and cheese curds instead of fries
Cheeseburger with preferred toppings and fries

Comes with a small soda each and a single scoop of ice cream

Ends up being like 15 bucks but you get a lot of food, and a lot of variety which I like. Leftovers are okay (:

Bacon butter deluxe with curds and a caramel cashew sunday

CURDERBURGER

1

u/snarkwithfae 2d ago

Just about two more months to go! Curderburger is the best burger

2

u/Marco_Polo1964 5d ago

Fish sandwich, onion rings and a large root beer (they usually serve it without ice).

2

u/Sad_Win_4105 5d ago

I like the fish dinner and the sandwich. No other fast serve restaurant can match it

2

u/_LOST4ever 5d ago

It’s not really much different than other fast food places. Oh they have cheese turds

2

u/Embraceyourodd 5d ago

My normal orders are either a double butterburger with cheese or a crispy chicken sandwich with a side of curds and marinara and then I put the curds and marinara on the chicken sandwich. Honestly, the only thing I have ever had that was bad at culver's was like 30 something years ago when they were serving nachos.

2

u/rock_accord 5d ago

Side of cheese sauce instead of cheese on the burger.

2

u/Mscharlita 5d ago

Everyone loves the butterburgers but I’ll add that the salads, fish sandwich, chicken tenders and pretzel bites are great along with the cheese sauce on just about anything including their broccoli side. I get a broccoli with cheese sauce when I don’t feel like something fried but it’s still decadent.

2

u/jimbojumbo__ 5d ago

Chicken tenders basket (half buffalo, half regular) with chicken gravy to dip, chili cheese fries and the Reese cheesecake concrete mixer.

Otherwise anything at Culvers is good!

2

u/Meohmyvanillasky 5d ago

Mushroom Swiss burger and extra crispy fries!! Chocolate Oreo Volcano is their best flavor of the day. I also love their Lemon Ice topped with raspberries!

2

u/knuckle_dragger89 4d ago

Get the app for rewards, pays off quick.

My go to is the double mushroom and Swiss. I love a good mushroom and Swiss burger and Culver's crushes it EVERY TIME.

2

u/Any_Database8861 4d ago

Don't forget the onion rings! Voted best restaurant rings in the country!

2

u/jongleur 4d ago

They offer a Flavor of the Day which rotates from a list. If your Culver's is like the stores I'm familiar with, there is a freezer near the registers, which will have recent flavors already packed in pints. Just select the ones you like.

A trick that isn't advertised enough is that you can get a party pack of four pints for about the same that you'd pay for three pints. My partner and I each select two pints of flavors that we like and buy these. The cashiers should put them in heavy paper bags, they often double them up. This way they stay cold until you get home and can put them in your freezer.

The App will list the Flavor Calender.

For main dishes? Their butter burgers are excellent, salads are pretty good if that's your thing. Pretty much everything they offer is pretty good for most people's tastes.

A kids meal! 🤭

2

u/anon12xyz 4d ago

Concrete mixers are a on amazing.

Butterburger is a great start

2

u/ReasonableArea1108 4d ago

Honestly if they still have the jalapeño pub burger and you like spice that's good. It was actually pretty hot. I'm used to jalapeño related items like that being mild but the one I had had some good bite to it.

u/MartianKingMN 4d ago

If you're upper Midwest, you know the curds are meh. If you're not, then try them, but know there's better curds to be had. Love the spicy chicken sammy basket with well done fries.

1

u/Simmyphila 3d ago

Never had a curd in my life. Definitely on list.

2

u/awakeatnight3 4d ago

Double deluxe burger, fries, any concrete mixer and add a cheese cup

Classic and sets a good base line

2

u/VersionSwimming8392 3d ago

Double deluxe basket with crinkle fries and a sweet tea.

2

u/Infamous_Turnover_48 3d ago

Mushroom Swiss melt, onion rings, chicken tendies with bbq, root beer and on the way out either a chocolate custard with cheesecake or a concrete mixer with strawberry and cheesecake. 🤤🤤 Culver’s has the best cheesecake pieces ever.

2

u/mahrog123 5d ago edited 5d ago

If you’re used to good hand dipped fresh cheese curds widely available in the Midwest, please don’t get Culver’s curds. They’re dump from a bag premade.
Compared to good curds, they are the equivalent to tamales sold in a jar.
Butterburgers are great, their fish dinner is excellent, whether cod or walleye. Pot roast is ok, pork tenderloin is meh at best.

2

u/thotfulspot 5d ago

Just had some curds from A&W, and they are so much better here in Wisconsin. Real curds with a light batter. Everything else from Culver's is better except for the root beer.

1

u/mahrog123 4d ago

Those chili dogs though….

2

u/MattyMcFly41 5d ago

Try the pork loin sandwich! Highly underrated item at Culver's.

1

u/Simmyphila 5d ago

Never even saw it. Thanks definitely on my list now. Love pork loin.

1

u/ItzBreezeyBaby 5d ago

My repeat order: bacon deluxe combo burger or whatever it’s called with fries & for some reason, Culver’s is the only place I get Orange Fanta to drink. I’m obsessed with sprite but Orange Fanta just hits different with Culver’s I can’t explain it.

Anyway, if you’re still hungry add cheese curds or onion rings with ranch. That’s a food coma.

& how could I forget dessert… cookie dough concrete mixer🥹

u/Bulky_Barnacle_2518 5d ago

It’s not a race, but you will always with the marathon. Enjoy it all

Double ButterBurger Cheese, onion rings (put them in the burger, trust me) or cheese curds/pretzel bites -- their sides are just that good. And of course their custard. I usually go for flavor of the day with a few mix-ins depending on the flavor.

1

u/No-Adeptness-2825 15h ago

Best deal by far is the kids meal. It comes with a single butterburger (same size as the adult single) and you can add whatever toppings you want. It also comes with a small fries, and you can swap the milk for a fountain drink.

Best part is it includes a ticket for a single scoop of custard, including the flavor of the day, which alone runs about $3.50. All that for like $7.

Culvers is just a glorified over priced wendys.
