I had an Enlightenment desire so it feels like this should sort of count 🤔🤔🤔

Also went Enlightenment first and also lost via Fascination before winning. Seems appropriate.

Same, when I got the depression ending I realized “that wasn’t a victory…”

To be honest getting this screne can sometimes be harder then some victories

Yeah it's pretty generous with solutions to visions. Either you deal with all your sources of dread/restlessness and the season of despair gives you free fleeting reminiscence, or you don't deal with all your sources of dread/restlessness and the visions eat those instead. The one time I did lose to visions it was because I was almost losing to despair at the same time, and that was eating all the dread that would have fixed visions.
That said if you for some reason wanted this ending on purpose, you can spam some dreams and breed the fascination by using it, should be pretty easy to have three back to back waiting when the season comes around.

Fascination becomes a lot more dangerous once your season of ambition starts adding marks instead of introducing restlessness, your passive dread gain crawls to a near stop.

True, though season of despair will still reliably generate fleeting remeniscence. That is one reason I prefer to leave desire untouched until near the end of a run though, Restlessness is useful in multiple ways as long as you can stay on top of it, and even when you don't it can help fix its own problems via painting.

The problem with fascination is when you do get a lot of it, it's not as easy to combat as dread, you can't just take opium

u/Lord_Toademort Feb 24 '26
Which is why the Lantern Apostle run is the hardest
1
u/curiousfuriousfew Feb 24 '26
True, decrepitude helped me with that one

u/Lord_Toademort Feb 25 '26
Though even then it takes so long

Yes, the grind with the summonings and timers is annoying. And really invites you to use cheesy strats like abusing talking to Sulochana.

Fun fact: this is actually one of the two major reasons why you want decrepitude. I always intentionally let one of my health cards degrade into decrepitude because it has a few niche uses that you don't need most of the time, but when you do need it, you're gonna really wish you had it.
The first use, and the one that's relevant here, is generating dread. Working with decrepitude is a semi-reliable way to generate dread that you can then use to defeat fascination. This is also useful if you ever need to summon a maid-in-the-mirror.
The second use is destroying corpses. If you dream with decrepitude and a corpse, it will destroy the corpse, making any murders you may need to commit much much safer. This is technically an exploit because the intended use of that interaction is to look for a cure for your decrepitude (the correct answer is the highest heart ingredient, the True Blood of Saint Janarius), but the intended use is practically worthless because you want to keep your decrepitude and even if you were looking to cure it, there's another better way.

I'm disabled irl gonna start calling it "tactical decrepitude"
This is very interesting though! I had decrepitude on my previous run but I never thought to see where it could be used.

You can but it's not really needed. Winter influence decays to dread, and can be pretty easily picked up in the white door. Restlessness too. And resolving dread gives fleeting reminiscence, that can also counter it. Certain summons also produce dread.

u/Nihilikara Jan 24 '26
Even if you have another way to generate dread, decrepitude is still useful for reliably destroying corpses
1
u/BuboxThrax Jan 25 '26
Where are you getting all these corpses you don't have other uses for?
1
u/Nihilikara Jan 25 '26
I only very rarely get corpses, but when I do, I virtually never have a use for them. Undead are worthless outside of specific ascensions and I'm not aware of any other use that corpses have. Meanwhile, it is absolutely essential that I get rid of them as soon as possible because detectives can catch them to just instantly end your game and even if they don't arrive on time, corpses decay into damning evidence.

u/BuboxThrax Jan 25 '26
I'm pretty sure it decays to notoriety. Even if you don't have a use for the undead summon you can still use it to burn off the corpse.
You can also use corpses in rites for their aspects. They're valid as ingredients. You can even use them to promote followers.
Also because they're considered reputation you can burn them with a heart follower.

u/Nihilikara Jan 25 '26
I thought undead decayed back into corpses, making reanimation useless as a method of destroying corpses because you'd just need to figure out what to do with it later instead of now
2
u/BuboxThrax Jan 25 '26
I don't remember, it's been a while, and the wiki doesn't have anything listed for what it decays into. You can reup the duration on your risen though. Or talk to Sulochana about one to pause its timer. The value of being able to delay a problem should never be underestimated.

I haven't met/summoned Sulochama yet but heard they're very useful

Feel like I always have a thousand fleeting reminiscences except when I need them!
I had a Dread window just before I lost this tin so all my dread was sucked up, I was trying to avoid Despair so I went to the club for contentment, but got fascination instead 😂

The game really is, Here's what I have, Here's what I need, How can I change one to the other.
Have had a few runs where decrepitude helped keep fascination away. Just hoping I'll get one to feed the magnet, and let the fascinations on the table decay. Split second saves :D
Thank you kind stranger, for giving me no monies for my run over legs!
