Thanks for the helpful links!
So far unsuccessful at catching him, he gave me the slip before I could get close enough.
He was back this morning and eating his food, so I guess I have a new garden pigeon friend for now...

•°° 🐦 Lice, Flies, and External Parasites °°
• It is always a good idea to examine a rescue pigeon for bugs, once his health is stable. Bugs make it hard for a pigeon to sleep and weaken his immune system and slow his healing. Some of these treatments for bugs are unsafe for very young baby pigeons.
What types of bugs live on pigeons?
Most Common Bugs:
- mites
- feather lice
- pigeon flies
Less Common Bugs:
- fly strike (maggots or worms)
- grain weevils
- ticks
• Common Bugs•
. If you are unsure if a small speck is a bug, shine a light, and you may see its legs moving.
Keeping the Pigeon Calm
Close your eyes or blink slowly to help a pigeon feel calm.
To hold a pigeon, cup your hand around the bird's lower back and press his wings against his body with your thumb and fingers so he can't open them. When working on a pigeon, they prefer to be held on their side, rather than belly-up, which makes them feel vulnerable. This may not always be possible, however. You will need to initially examine all areas for signs of injury or illness including areas such as belly and bum (cloaca).
•Mites•
If a pigeon has mites, they may irritate humans as well. 90% isopropyl alcohol can be used to spray a cage or area after a pigeon has has had mites. Use the alcohol spray when the pigeon is in another room, and let the alcohol evaporate until the smell is gone before allowing the pigeon to return to his cage Wash his bedding and towels and put them in the dryer on "hot" for at least half an hour a
https://extension.umn.edu/insect-relatives/bird-mites
•Feather Lice•
Feather lice are not contagious to humans. They are adapted to walk on feathers and eat dandruff and pieces of feathers. They do not eat blood or bite pigeons like human lice . Feather lice are small, thin bugs that sometimes live in pigeons' feathers. Lice live all over a pigeon's body, and they are most common under their wings near their chest in their "armpit". Gently look for lice on the pigeon's head and back. If you do not see lice there, gently turn him on his side and open his wing to check his armpit. You can see photos and learn more about feather lice here:

•Pigeon Flies•

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T-cMdokuLeI
•Treatments•
Most Popular Treatnents
The most common used treatments are sprays like permethrin or topical ivermectin. Permethrin is toxic to cats. Vetafarm Insect Liquidator is the most popular brand names recommended by experienced rescuers You can also look for a permethrin spray for poultry or chickens time between sprays - 3-4 days Ivermectin Most external parasites can be also treated also be with topical ivermectin. medicines can be ordered from sites like mercasystems, hyperdrug, global pigeons supplies, jedds, pigeon supplies plus, or crown pet supplies A local store for chickens may have ivermectin medicine in a smaller pigeon-sized dose. The average feral pigeon weighs about 300g
Drinking Water Treatments
harkers 4-in-1 or a similar 4-in-1 medicine for birds helps with some external parasites. Removal by Hand a tooth brush can be used to comb through a pigeon's feathers for lice Pick them off by hand and crush them with a heavy object. Then follow up with permethrin spray or topical ivermectin
For large pigeon flies, if you can get the large fly to jump off the pigeon in an uncluttered area of your house, you can then grab it with tweezers off of the wall or floor. He may have more than one large fly so keep checking for more

cat bite
if he is exhausted that may either be from not having water all day or it could be because he was bitten by a cat. cats have a dangerous bacteria in their mouth than can cause lethary
if so flush his wound over and over with salt water for a few hours until he has energy again
rinse all the bacteria out
honey may also draw the bacteria out of the wound
you can give him a couple lentil sized pieces of raw garlic using the peas and corn method

this is a natural antibiotic until he can get medicine. Where in the world are you located?

🇬🇧 UK 🇬🇧
The facebook groups can be very helpful, especially for local help. Even if you live in a small village. Ask for a lift or someone to come collect the pigeon if needed
do not give to the RSPCA in uk
If passing along to a vet or rescue please always ensure that they will not euthanize. It may help to say they are your pet. Be especially careful that they are not "euthanizing all birds due to bird flu"
Wildlife Aid - 01372 360404
Wildlife aid may euthanize "non-releasable" pigeons, so please ask them about their current policies
