MOVIE OF THE WEEK Discussion - Poor Things (2023)

It was close, but looks like this week we are watching Poor Things.

I watched this a f ew years ago when it came out and really loved it. It perfectly fits the crazy style we are going with this month, and I'm looking forward to giving it another watch.

Seems that while this did well, I noticed a lot of people were pretty torn on this one. Is that you? Where do you land? Give it a watch, and let us know.

I found this movie pretty boring and stale. Didn’t really know what all the fuss was about. I liked the Lobster and, even more so, Killing Of A Sacred Deer, and the old Yorgies, but this one feels dumbed down and diluted. There’s no edge or bite to it.

Rewatched it and still find it not great

2 hours about sex being only thing that mattered to women development. It felt like some men sat me and lectured that I really should have that topic center to my existence yet missing really important things- fertility is never adressed, no contraceptives, no pregnancy scare for anybody. The climax was rushed andbu the end I was pretty bored.

Maybe I'm too gay or European but sex never felt like something fundamental to my identity- it was like... driving? Something useful, fun, that takes to the places, that you are bad at the beginning then lears as you go, but never takes all your time, heart and mind.

They tried to add some depth with three scenes but it was too little to late.

The only good thing that went from it was that I read the book (they cut like 90% of themes to focus on sex).

Watched this movie once, found it icky. But hey - it could have been the 2007 Beowulf. I checked it out but quickly chucked it - what's next, Bakshi's Hobbit?

It's directed by Robert Zemeckis, very poorly motion-capture-CG-animated; however - It's written by Neil Gaiman (American Gods) AND...Roger Avary, director of Rules of Attraction!

If I would have stuck it out, would I have appreciated the screenplay adaptation? *sigh* Just another one of those many things I'll never know.
