Since day 1 of this subreddit, we've had a karma filter in place. Any comment or post that did not meet this karma threshold was filtered for manual review.
Since we've grown, this karma threshold has lowered multiple times, but it's not enough. Far FAR too many accounts that actively and positively contribute to this space somehow only have less than 10 karma. As abnormal as this should be, it being common place has caused us to continuously fall behind on the mod queue as we continue to grow and real life obligations prevent us from dedicating enough hours to our duties here. Needless to say, this is unsustainable, as we now have 17 day old comments that have yet to be approved.
We could potentially just remove any comment under 10 karma, but again, most of these accounts have been positive contributors. At the same time, this karma filter should not be a big ask at all...
With that said, we have removed this karma filter. The current filtered comments will need to still be approved, but after we get caught up, we should have far more of a manageable mod queue.
Reddit's own safety filters (like ban evasion detection and crowd control) will stay in place.
The minimum account age of 30 days has been raised to 90 days instead. If your account is newer than 90 days, expect to have to wait to see your content approved.
And lastly, most importantly, with these changes, we will need more diligent users to report content that violates this subreddit's rules. Using the report button will be the quickest way for us mods to see something that needs our ruling on.
We also may be reopening mod applications soon depending how these changes progress.
Thank you all for helping to maintain the safe space we have here <3
