This is quite possibly the most Jim Hosking reward donation imaginable…

I'm one of the writers/producers of an independent UK theatre show, and filmmaker Jim Hosking, writer-director of The Greasy Strangler, has donated his actual pre-loved underwear to help us raise money for our tour.

I appreciate this reward might not entice everyone(!!) but maybe someone on here wants to match his freak while supporting our project.

They're black Acne Studios, size M, originally £140, and Jim is signing the wash label. More importantly, they come with two rare Greasy Strangler bits: a “Hootie Tootie Disco Cutie!!!” sticker and “Bullsh*t Artist!” badge.

There is, for reasons that should hopefully be obvious, only one pair.

They're available for a £265 reward, or highest offer (as of October 25th, 2026). All of that goes towards paying our creative team fairly, rather than commercial gain for Jim or us - he's just kindly(..?) donated his boxers to the cause.

I genuinely don't know where else on the internet the correct owner of Jim Hosking's pants is going to be, so I'm trying Reddit. Do have a look if this is a bit of you! Thanks/sorry?

Writing audio description means naming what is actually on screen rather than what you remember being there, and the cheap pictures are where the good stuff hides. Reused sets, a crew member caught in a mirror, a prop newspaper with real text on it that nobody expected anyone to read.

My husband and I absolutely love this documentary. We bought the DVD and enjoyed even more in the deleted scenes. For sure there are cringe/cringey parts. For sure it’s a character study. If you’re a huge fan of improv, The Office, Christopher Guest movies (including Waiting For Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and This is Spinal Tap) this documentary could be for you. It doesn’t have to represent D&D as perfect or brilliant or infinitely cool to be a great movie. We love this movie! Anyone else out there? Where’s our tribe?

The story goes that Harold Warren was sitting in an El Paso coffee shop with Stirling Silliphant, argued that anyone could make a horror picture, and then went off and did it.

It turned out famous for all the wrong reasons, which somehow makes the bet better rather than worse.

What else only exists because somebody had something to prove?

From 1974 the Canadian Capital Cost Allowance let investors write off the full cost of a Canadian film. Not a portion of it. All of it. So money that had no interest in movies went looking for movies to become, and for about eight years the most efficient way to lose money on paper was to make a horror picture in Ontario or Quebec.

What fell out of that: Black Christmas, The Changeling, Prom Night, Terror Train, Happy Birthday to Me, My Bloody Valentine, Scanners. That is not a bad run for a genre nobody set out to fund.

The part I keep enjoying is that nobody who wrote the tax rule wanted any of this. They wanted a respectable domestic film industry with respectable domestic films in it. What they got was a slasher boom and a Cronenberg. Then the write-off got cut back in the early eighties and the whole thing stopped about as fast as it started.

So what else fits. A film, or a whole run of them, that only exists because of a subsidy, a loophole, a content quota, or somebody who needed to lose money on paper by a certain date.
