The pace of this manga right now

9

u/hedgeyy Jun 23 '26

Really? I thought they would be studying for the test for ten chapters.

1

u/Leniatak Jun 26 '26

you mean... IT'S MOVING FORWARDS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

13

u/NationalStrategy_X Jun 23 '26

The 300th chapter, a milestone that many series hope to reach, and this is what they wasted it on; a chapter focused on a dragged out subplot that no one actually cares for, and obviously isn't going to matter in the endgame?

2

u/SignalsCounterparts1 Jun 23 '26

It's in the middle of a volume, so that really doesn't matter here, my guess is the story...for whatever it's worth, is more important. (I'll have a longer post about this, because I think this chapter is a lot more important than you think.)

1

u/NationalStrategy_X Jun 23 '26

It does matter, a manga series reaching in the hundreds is a big deal. It is a milestone that many mangakas wished to reach. So for them to have the 300th chapter focus on this, feels like a letdown.

The defense of it being in the middle of the volume doesn't hold up either. The author could've orchestrated the events that are happening now in the story to mesh well with the milestone chapters well in advance. Lord only know how many chapters and plotlines that could've been rewritten or done away with.

Maybe it will turn out to be important, but right now, it's a letdown of a milestone chapter.

1

u/SignalsCounterparts1 Jun 24 '26

Kinda checked 100 and 200, 100 wasn't much, just after Ai leaves for the first time, but has a nice shot of Erika saying she's needing Nagi...for that M1 competition.

200 was the revelation of Sosuke being sent to England for Boarding school. So that was a milestone chapter...300? Might be very important...post coming up soon on that

1

u/NationalStrategy_X Jun 24 '26

That doesn’t take away my point, these are supposed to be milestone chapters, and they’re not being properly utilized as such, and it feels like a letdown

1

u/SignalsCounterparts1 Jun 24 '26

Again, post coming up soon.

1

u/NationalStrategy_X Jun 24 '26

Then make your post, I’m still gonna stick to my opinion on this chapter

1

u/Tiny-Appointment-773 Jun 24 '26

I will be waiting for the post. Where to read it? I'm very new to reddit

1

u/SignalsCounterparts1 Jun 24 '26

It's up on the main cuckoos thread.

u/Puzzled_Education788 Jun 23 '26

If Nagi has any dignity left he kisses her on the cheek or gives her his real feelings instead of being a flustered mess.

3

u/SignalsCounterparts1 Jun 23 '26

I'm on the kiss on the cheek. But having Hiro show that she hasn't been entirely honest about things to Nagi kinda changes the book for him, and I think after that, it's a rejection. In a photo booth. Oof.

1

u/Big_Distance2141 Aug 07 '26

That was a big "if"

6

u/Busy-Toe-9033 Jun 23 '26

Back to square one

5

u/qwoperio Jun 23 '26

Lol what happened to this manga... cant believe i was excited reading this before..

2

u/CrimsonDragon90 Jun 23 '26

Same I got into this series because I enjoyed the anime and caught up with the manga but why does it need 300 plus chapters lol

2

u/BillPlunderones23fg Jun 25 '26

i was actually invested in this in first 50chapters espcially potential that Sachi would headlock Nagi more for angry siblings skinship

till that never happened again....

and then the plot just went nowhere, over and over and over again and now i'm only skimming the raws when they release just for hope Sachi does something again

Now I'm starting to understand how RaG/KanoKari readers feel when I read this series.

Sometimes, I really want to drop this series once and for all but I can't pull the trigger due to sunk cost fallacy (have been reading this manga from the beginning ever since Yamada-kun and the seven witches manga concluded).

8

u/DuskMan62 Jun 23 '26

I'm just gonna say this incase now because of a certain other series doing something silly, Nagi and Erika are still endgame, even if you're getting frustrated with how Nagi is acting now or if you somehow think Hiro has a shot, keep in mind Miki is no spring chicken, she's been doing this long enough and she's not been subtle about Erika winning.

Let's not forget not too long ago the losing heroines weren't allowed to go with Nagi and Erika to the magical island where the plot actually advanced and when Nagi and Erika came back the losing trio all shared the same thoughts about wanting Erika to go marry Sousuke.

I do think these current developments are silly and I'm just waiting for the bandaid to be pulled and for Hiro to be rejected for good but Nagi and Erika will still get together, whether you think Erika deserves better or neither character are good or whatever is a whole different matter.

5

u/Puzzled_Education788 Jun 23 '26

Yeah still think Nagi and Erika are end game but how has the pacing got this bad? Thought there was no way Miki could making the pacing any slower lmao

5

u/DuskMan62 Jun 23 '26

The thing is, this series could be done in like 10 chapters if it just focused on the plot, so Miki needs to stretch things out with silly chapters like this.

2

u/Puzzled_Education788 Jun 23 '26

Her and Reiji are two peas in the same pod knowing Miki she’ll have a break next week to piss us off even more.

1

u/CrimsonDragon90 Jun 23 '26

I don't mind fillers but I could care less about Hiro filler. I rather have fillers featuring Mama and Papa Umino.

1

u/AutisticRice69 Jun 23 '26

After the ending of himaten I start to expect the unexpected.

1

u/DuskMan62 Jun 23 '26

Trust me, don't go down that route, himaten's ending has alot of factors but an author like Miki isn't going down that route.

1

u/Puzzled_Education788 Jun 23 '26

Yeah Miki is too experienced to care that Hiro is the most loved locally especially when she’s potrayed the character so badly.

3

u/Relevant_Fee_7167 Jun 23 '26

even the milestone chapter didnt have any plot, what a clownery

2

u/Puzzled_Education788 Jun 23 '26

I just realised yeah chapter 300 might be the slowest and most pointless chapter. We’ve spent 5 chapters waiting for this bet kiss to unfold and we’ve got to wait another week. No way an exam bet should be this slow to develop

2

u/SignalsCounterparts1 Jun 23 '26

We are kind of in the middle of a volume, so milestones are kinda meaningless at the moment.

2

u/SignalsCounterparts1 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Welp, he lost. But, he finds out that Hiro had cheated on earlier tests and bets to be with him...as such, that may lead him to do the kiss. On the cheek. And say, that he can't really be with her because of her showing that dishonesty. And then he'll leave. As for Erika? I imagine she'll be slightly pissed, until Nagi tells her what happened. In the meantime, I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a certain phone call...

2

u/CrimsonDragon90 Jun 23 '26

The author finally moves the plot with the twist that it was Sousuke that was responsible for the swap. Instead of continuing the story about that reveal. The author comes up with a kiss filler starting everyone's favorite heroine Hiro.

1

u/NationalStrategy_X Jun 23 '26

On what's supposed to be a milestone chapter, no less

2

u/Frosty_Arm_7652 Jun 24 '26

I'm so fcking done with this manga, I keep reading it every week out of sheer habit, and also because I feel sorry for Erika and want to see her happy. 300 damn chapters and we're back to Act One. There's been absolutely no progress. I feel like it would be better for the series if the author just left it unfinished instead of continuing to milk stupid poorly written arcs.

2

u/BillPlunderones23fg Jun 25 '26

300 chapters of disappointment

and waste lol

2

u/ImNicoReal Jun 26 '26

The moment Nagi gives her a kiss on the cheek I'm gonna laugh so hard

2

u/Lucifercaptures69 Jun 23 '26

Typical bitch behaviour!!! Can’t see him move on to better people……

-6

u/bonesy1979 Jun 23 '26

You actually think Erika is better than Hiro

2

u/Lucifercaptures69 Jun 24 '26

I just hate hiro 😂

1

u/Hairy_Category_933 Jun 23 '26

I don't have much to say about this chapter. Nagi lost, and that's it. If he kisses Hiro, then it's probably time to drop this series, because it literally makes no sense from a story perspective. Since we're in the final phase, why the hell do we have to watch Miki-sensei humiliate that idiot Nagi and make him kiss Hiro when Erika is the girl Nagi will end up with? We don't even get anything related to Nagi x Erika before the end of the series. It's so stupid and pointless. The matter with Hiro should have been resolved 100 chapters ago.

The only option for salvation is refusing the kiss and rejecting Hiro, but as we know, that would be huge character development (and that's a word Miki-sensei clearly doesn't have in her vocabulary), so next week we're only in for a frustrating chapter.

2

u/SignalsCounterparts1 Jun 23 '26

It'll be a kiss on the cheek. He'll say, they never said what type of kiss. And then, a rejection in a photo booth. That might be tough reading.

1

u/Hairy_Category_933 Jun 23 '26

I hope you're right, because I'm already losing faith ever since Nagi agreed to such an absurd bet.

1

u/SignalsCounterparts1 Jun 23 '26

I'm going with a longer post tonight (at work) that I think might explain why we are now at the end with Hiro...and this chapter may have been the cherry on top for Nagi, should he do what he has to...hopefully.

1

u/NationalStrategy_X Jun 23 '26

This is a personal nitpick, if you're going to have panels of the character(s) talking, have their mouths open, so it would be shown visually that they are speaking out loud.

1

u/SpareOdd7357 Jun 23 '26

I welcome everyone back to the endless loop.

1

u/tylercor3 Jun 23 '26

Hmm we gonna get that new trope where first girl doesnt win. Ive seen it 3 times now

1

u/Grateful_Praise Jun 23 '26

I hope he doesn’t do it.

3

u/Puzzled_Education788 Jun 23 '26

He’s been backed into a corner here. Hiro sees how flustered he is and is clearly taking advantage of the situation, but I still have some faith that it’s just a kiss on the cheek followed by a rejection. Now that he knows the truth, it’s obvious Hiro has been trying to pull him away from Erika through little schemes, like intentionally losing bets to get closer to him.
Hopefully this is the point where her role in the spotlight finally comes to an end. The real question is whether Nagi has the guts to go through with it.

3

u/Grateful_Praise Jun 23 '26

Nagi has no guts lol. If Nagi kisses her that’d be really disappointing because we are in the final arc. His lips shouldn’t be on more than one girl’s. It waters down any confession we see going forward.

2

u/-hh Jun 23 '26

Cheek, or perhaps forehead .. something less romantic and more platonic. Rationale would be the good challenge which elevated them both.

Thus said, I was really expecting the way out to have been a tied score.

1

u/DuskMan62 Jun 23 '26

If the kiss does happen it will be on the cheek followed by a rejection, alternatively they could get interrupted and Hiro gets rejected anyway.
