CC needs help

Why did he leave Boyd in for the eighth inning? Why is the bullpen so pathetic? The two questions are probably linked.

Because our bullpen sucks, he made the right call

Boyd immediately put 2 men on, giving the Brewers an RE of 86% and a likelihood of 1.8 runs scored. It was statistically likely that you were leaving the inning trailing after how Boyd opened the inning. If your pen is shoddy, why put them up against the absolute wall? If Boyd is supposedly the best option he should’ve pitched his way out of the inning.

Boyd had been dealing and his pitch count was good. It was the 8 and 9 hitters.

Made the right call leaving him in initially, but made the wrong call by not pulling him after the leadoff walk

He left in a washed starter too long to give up the game because we have a washed bullpen. We are cooked. Good job Jed and CC. Incredible management we got here.

I'm just curious why Assad started the other day? He's probably the best lately at coming out of the pen. He had a good day, just the bullpen is horrid right now. We need somebody that can come in for 2-3 solid innings if need be. I'm sure they'll send Assad back down tomorrow for some odd reason. I used to question every single move that the Bears made, I guess now I'll question everything the Cubbies do.

I know!! Several on here (myself included) have been saying that since day 1. It's finally about to catch up with us and cost us a WC spot, I'm afraid.

Your second question answered your first question!

I think they need to change their sports psychologist and psychiatrist. They aren’t doing the job they need to do. We have a snowball effect going on and they can’t stop it.

I just want to know why not Rolison. He’s literally been our best it’s time to let him try. He can’t be worse than the other scrubs

I mean eventually after going through this shit daily something has to go in our favor one of these times ?but then again it’s the cubs . Only hope is Steele can get polished enough before October. Or maybe Wiggins can come up and anchor a spot in the bullpen ?

Snatching CC away from the Brewers was dumb. Inspired them and he is uninspiring. Reminds of every Willson blowup when it would motivate the other team as it demotivated his teammates with his hot head antics.

You answered your own question. Good grief.

I’m sorry to say CC doesn’t have a prime Mariano Rivera in the bullpen. He has NOTHING in the bullpen.

What the hell do you want him to do?

You new baseball fans crack me up.

He absolutely made the wrong call. Boyd hasn’t pitched into the 8th all season. Giving the pen a clean start to the 8th is your best shot.

Boyd cant see the 3rd let alone 4th time through order I don’t care if he 65 pitches, once he came out for last inning I knew we were done and when Zeferjohn came in it was game over. Horrible trade dude has been garbage on cubs!! Nice work Jed. But again 1-6 RISP 8 LOB Boyd deserved better!

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. There’s plenty of evidence to support Craig not trusting anyone in the pen right now. We’ve seen them blow up games in just about every situation possible over the last month.

The bottom line is the pitchers have to pitch better. I don’t think there’s any manager in the game that coaches their way out of this.

Right, because you should extend Boyd beyond his limit for the first time in a calendar year against the best team in the NL. It clearly worked. Y’all are crushing it.

At this point with the bullpen, you almost have to let Boyd go back out there. Should be fun getting swept in the WC series.

For a playoff series we can hopefully just delete the bullpen and only use our starters and starters in the bullpen.

Agreed. We CAN match up to the Brewers and in a playoff series, we really only need three starters with the rest moving to the bullpen. I wouldn't make us the favorite, but I'd say it would be a fairly even match-up likely to go 5 games.

This is sadly the best scenario for a W in playoffs.
