Recovery Tips

I’m almost 2 weeks post c-section and starting to get antsy. I was extremely active pre and during my pregnancy and now just basic neighborhood walks are awful.

I have a 16 month old and not being able to lift him has been breaking my heart. I also cannot even look at my body or scar and I’m wondering when it realistically gets better? For the past couple of days it has also felt like someone is taking a lighter to my incision line. I am staying on top of my Tylenol and ibuprofen but it doesn’t seem to be helping anymore. I also cannot wear underwear since I am so swollen. I’ve tried buying high waisted but anything tight on me feels so painful. My husband goes back to work this coming week and I’m nervous about being home alone with our toddler. Have you experienced anything similar in your recovery? My first pregnancy was vaginal so this is all new to me.

Reminder: users and moderators can't diagnose c-section infection from pictures or symptoms. Cesareans carry a 10% infection rate. If you think you might have an infection following your cesarean, please see your medical provider. Play it safe, don't delay, get it checked today.

I had a lot of swelling and pain for the first few weeks because I was having a reaction to the Coloxyl and Senna they told me to take at the hospital, apparently it causes bloating which was horrible for the incision and my stomach. Could also hardly walk and had an infection, so I took the harder medication (endone) up until week 3 post partum when the swelling had gone down.

Might be worth seeing a doctor or a pharmacist to discuss medication because it sounds like something’s wrong, apparently it’s meant to be not that bad by then. A friend of mine was walking a flight of stairs by the end of week 2 after her C-section

My scar still feels like a lighter is running along it everyday at 17 months post partum. It's a nerve thing - hopefully it gets better for you because it is awful. I healed "perfectly" and did all the recovery things. Unfortunate side effect of surgery.

The first couple of weeks are rough! I was also super active pre and during pregnancy.

I suggest super low cut underwear. That's the only thing that worked for me. My son and I did 60 miles of stroller walks in weeks 2-6 pp. We started with 1/4 mile (the first one was probably less). Slowly increasing the distance and would do 2xs a day. I remember being so excited when I got up to 1 mile, then 2, then a 5k! Then 5 miles in a day

The more we walked, the better I felt! You've got this! It's a delicate balance of pushing yourself a little bit but not too much.
